Lecture performance in the format of an open dance class. The lecture performance proposes to mix the seriousness of a conference on miscegenation, relationships of exoticism, the notion of the “Bon sauvage”, and contemporary ways in which colonial relations are maintained, all telled with the informality of a salsa class.
During dance class, concrete examples of the way in which binary thinking is embodied in Western culture bodies, and how tropical rythms are a good exercises to dismantle or put into brackets this way of thinking.
Using the museum as dancefloor, the lecture discusses the links between Adrian Piper´s Funk Lessons and Helio Oiticica´s Parangolés; both artists whom reflected on hiperationalization through bodily art experiences.
